   Laurits Tuxen described his house Villa Dagminne in Skagen as “The last house on the western end of Skagen, situated in an old garden.” He stayed here virtually every year for shorter or longer periods of time from 1902 until his death in 1927. In the southern wing of the building, the oldest part of the house, which used to be called Mrs. Bendsen’s cottage, there was a dining room decorated in the old rustic style. Tuxen painted several motifs from this room. Here, Tuxen’s wife, Frederikke serves coffee for the artist’s daughters Yvonne and Nina. The light shines warmly through the windows, onto the floor and over the set table, creating a warm, homely atmosphere. An atmosphere that is masterfully captured by Tuxen through his technical use of composition, colours, brushstrokes, and backlighting.
